Building Green Communities IV
Local Self-Reliance: Making Connections
April 3, 2010, Arcata Community Center, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
The local self-reliance movement has been rapidly gaining momentum nationwide as people are realizing that their economic and community well-being are being controlled by Wall Street banks, and that our political system is not actually run by “we the people.” Instead of despair and hopelessness–why not do something about it? Get out of that chair and come down to the fourth annual Building Green Communities conference, Saturday, April 3rd, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
The conference will have workshops and discussions on how locally grown foods, locally generated energy and locally controlled water can create a greener, more prosperous and secure local economy. Learn firsthand from the people who are out turning ideas into action about how to plant a garden, how to use our local water more wisely, how to keep our money in our local economy where it can improve our quality of life, how to raise backyard poultry, and how to support local renewable energy production, among many other offerings.
A Tradeshow/Expo with 50 exhibitors will provide you with the tools and inspiration to follow through with all that you have learned at the conference. We will also have the first Farmer’s Market of the Year, the Humboldt Electric Vehicles Association, a Kinetic Electric Samba Parade, a farm animal petting zoo and other kids activities, and a local foods buffet/social hour for conference attendees.
One of the highlights of the conference will be a Keynote Address at 6 p.m. by Steve Heckeroth, a contributing editor of Mother Earth News magazine. Heckeroth is a widely sought-after speaker on issues of local self-reliance with an impassioned and entertaining presentation style. Come participate in Creating the Future!
